Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) was established by the Government of Tami Nadu during early Eighties to produce newsprint and printing and writing paper using bagasse, a sugarcane residue, as primary raw material. The company commenced production in 1984 with an initial capacity of 90,000 tons per annum. Over the years, the production capacity has increased to 400,000 tons per annum and the Company has emerged as the largest bagasse-based paper mill in the world consuming about one million tons of bagasse every year. TNPL exports about 90,000 tons per annum to more than 50 countries.
