Silverton Pulp and Papers has decided to rebuild coated board plant to coated paper plant. The initial manufacturing capacity of the plant will be 250 TPD of coated writing and printing paper. Inviting an investment of nearly Rs. 125 Cr, the outlay of fund will be in the ratio of 70:30 from bank and self respectively. The company first decided to build this plant as 400 TPD coated board plant with an estimated cost of 250-300 Cr. However, it changed its plan and now would produce coating W&P paper after commissioning the plant next year, i.e. 2017.

They have brought one second hand paper machine of Voith which was imported from Italy. The finish deckle would be 3750 MM and machine is designed at a speed of 1000 meters per minute. Moreover, the company has procured two blade coaters, two super calendar, Globe Radio rewinder, and trim-free sheeters.

They are planning to manufacture two type of paper one would be wood-pulp based and other would be recycled based with GSM range of 50 and 100 respectively. In addition, the brightness of paper produced from pulp will vary from 94 to 95 percent while brightness of waste paper base would be 80 to 85 percent.

To improve its competitive side and combat increasing prices of pulp, Silverton has decided to cut down its cost of production. It has all the latest technology with a cogeneration plant of 16 MW having turbine supplied by Siemens working in 96 bar with best efficiency. The plant would have entire section of Kadant-Lamort with DNT washer.

Offering gloss and matte texture finishes, coated paper finds application in security papers, advertising materials, converted paper products, newspaper inserts, catalogues, and magazines. Coating extends the life span by offering enhanced physical properties including dirt, tear, and wear resistance as compared to uncoated paper.
