Ilim Group said that its Board of Directors has approved over USD 270 million for a paper mill project that includes the installation of a paper machine at the company’s Koryazhma Branch in Northwest Russia.
The proposed machine will produce about 150,000 tpy of cutsize papers and 50,000 tpy of UFS (uncoated freesheet) offset. In the future, instead of offset paper, a base paper for 70,000 tons of coated freesheet papers would be produced, as per company sources. An off-machine coater will also be installed. The project is expected to begin this year, with the new paper machine scheduled for start-up in 2012.
The Koryazhma Branch currently has an annual capacity to produce about 1 mn. tons of pulp and 255,000 tons of containerboard.
