M-real to close two specialty paper machines in Germany

M-real said that it plans to close two specialty paper machines at its Reflex mill in Duren, Germany and streamline the organizations in both the Reflex and Gohrsmuhle mills during the first half of 2010. Both mills operate within M-real Zanders specialty papers business. The Reflex mill has four paper machines and an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of fine paper.
PM 1 and PM 5 at the Reflex mill will be closed during the first half of 2010. The machines have a combined annual capacity of 80,000 tons of carbonless paper, the production of which will be transferred to the Gohrsmuhle mill.
Earlier this year, the Gohrsmuhle mill’s production portfolio was substantially changed by discontinuing the standard coated fine paper production and expanding the uncoated fine paper and specialty paper production, M-real noted. Converting will remain in Reflex, M-real said. The Reflex mill will continue producing premium fine and digital imaging papers on the remaining two machines, the company added.
