US-based Sonoco Products Company is setting up its first-ever global capability centre (GCC)—Sonoco Performance Hub (SPH)—in Hyderabad, Telangana.
The global leader in high-value sustainable packaging solutions planned to invest up to USD 10 million in the first phase of this ambitious project. The centre will be established in HITEC City of Hyderabad, near IKEA, with operations expected to commence by May this year.

The company is expected to recruit around 300 engineers in the next 12-18 months and 500 techies by 2028.
The Hartsville-based company aimed to increase its technology and innovation capabilities with the Hyderabad SPH. He said the facility would be led by a Sonoco veteran of 23 years who is relocating from Pune to Hyderabad.
Mr. Rajeev Ankireddypalli, VP & CIO of Sonoco, told a leading newspaper that SPH Hyderabad GCC would focus on advanced technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), data analytics, predictive analytics and cybersecurity.
The decision to set up a GCC in Hyderabad was “not about cost arbitrage but about leveraging talent for transformative initiatives.

The digital infrastructure and exposure in India would enable Sonoco’s transformative initiatives naturally. The facility would prove to be a crucial step in Sonoco’s growth and digital evolution, he noted.
Mr. Ankireddypalli said Sonoco aimed to expand its capabilities as a true GCC with SPH Hyderabad, with its technology services focusing on process automation and innovation. The company further planned to make this facility a comprehensive capability centre for other business processes as well.
