UK-based Kite Packaging has introduced a recyclable chilled packaging alternative that is paper-based having 69% recycled and FSC-approved material. It will be is a sustainable packaging option to conventional packaging materials like foil and polystyrene liners while featuring the same thermal properties. The new innovation in packaging enables to keep the contents of the box at a temperature less than 0 degrees Celsius for a duration of 35 hours when used with a coolant.

The thermal lining used in the packaging is 100% recyclable, cost-efficient, and has the same temperature-controlling features just like polystyrene.
During the research, Kite Packaging had conducted a number of stringent tests, confirming that at room temperature, i.e. 23°C, the corrugated liners can keep the contents inside the box below 0°c for 35 hours while being used in conjunction with gel packs.
Besides, another noteworthy feature of the packaging box is that the BC flute corrugation also provides the shock-absorption feature along with the characteristic of having thermal regulation. This feature can be beneficial to protect the packed products from both damages as well as changes in temperature that may affect the integrity and the quality of the packaged contents.

The corrugation liners consist of two pads meant for the top face as well as the bottom face of the box and there are different-sized gel packs for each side. When the liners are fitted to match the inside surface of the corresponding sized carton, every surface area of the box gets thermally lined with material. In fact, the packaging material is intelligently designed to curb the effects of external conditions.
