Saica Group has introduced the first recycled paper adhesive tape, strengthening circularity and sustainability across its paper packaging operations.

Saica Group has launched the world’s first adhesive tape made entirely from recycled paper fibres, developed jointly by Saica Flex and Saica Paper. The tape is produced using 100% recycled fibres generated within the Group, creating a closed-loop solution where recycled paper is converted into adhesive tape and then reused to protect paper reels.

Designed to replace non-repulpable alternatives, the recycled paper tape adheres securely to paper and cardboard, unwinds smoothly, and can be fully repulped at end-of-use to recover fibres. Following extensive testing at Saica’s R&D centre, the development team achieved a balance between functional performance and recyclability, an area where paper-based tapes often face technical limitations.
Importantly, the solution is compatible with standard reel-wrapping machines, allowing adoption without any equipment modifications. Commenting on the innovation, Federico Asensio Balet, Technology & Innovation Director at Saica Group, said the application of this innovation to adhesive tape is only the first step, with further potential uses under active research.

The recycled paper adhesive tape is already being used at Saica Paper’s El Burgo de Ebro facility and will be progressively rolled out across other European sites in the coming months, advancing sustainable reel protection across the Group’s operations.
