Narsingh Dass Group recently organized a seminar to enhance the knowledge about paper and paper industry namely ‘Sudhir Gupta Memorial Paper Knowledge Seminar 2012’ in New Delhi. The seminar was conceptualized, designed and developed to enumerate modern technology in paper, printing and packaging solutions across various user segments. The forum aims to impart and share various developments along with the knowledge of paper, its manufacturing process, grades and defects in papers, as well as emerging environmental concerns and other activities associated with the industry. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. RM Mathur, Director, Central Pulp & Paper Research Institute (CPPRI), Saharanpur. Further, Mr. RC Gupta presented a historical background of paper and talked comprehensively about the world of paper and stated that Indian paper industry turnover is Rs. 30,000 crore with production of world’s 2.6 percent and consumption of world’s 3% providing direct and indirect employment of 0.37 million and 1.37 million people respectively. With 759 installed units it produces 10.11 million tons (including newsprint) in FY 2010-11, of the present world demand of 400 million tons in the year 2012. The paper demand is growing by 7-8% as against population of 1.2 billion growing by 2% per annum. Other topics discussed at the seminar include: paper manufacturing process, grade of paper, paper properties, paper defect, media for digital printing, adhesives & book binding industries, and environmental issues.
