Haber’s next generation innovation- eLIXA® is a secure cloud based platform that integrates data collected through sensors across paper plants and controls mechanical, operational and chemical parameters. Data can be accessed and controlled through existing plant SCADA or through web based dashboards. AI/ML algorithms process data to generate accurate, quick as well as reliable results. In an interview with Paper Mart, Mr. Ashutosh Agrawal, Product Manager at Haber, delves into the pressing challenges in the pulp and paper industry and highlights how eLIXA®, coupled with its integration with Mt. Fuji, is revolutionizing process optimization and plant management through AI-driven solutions and real-time data visualization.
Paper Mart: The pulp and paper industry has been rapidly evolving with technology playing a critical role. From your perspective, what are some of the major trends shaping the industry today?
Ashutosh Agrawal: The industry is increasingly moving towards automation and data-driven decision-making. There’s a strong push to manage manual interventions, optimize resource usage, and achieve sustainability goals. At the same time, ensuring consistent product quality while controlling operational costs has become more important than ever. The need to respond to these challenges has driven innovations like eLIXAⓇ, which is designed to automate and optimize processes across industries, including pulp and paper.
PM: How does eLIXAⓇ address these challenges?
AA: eLIXAⓇ steps in by completely transforming the way processes are monitored and controlled. Traditionally, many operations rely solely on manual sampling and lab-based testing. With eLIXAⓇ, we augment those methods with sensor-based real-time testing, providing instant data on process parameters. This real-time visibility allows operators to take prompt corrective actions when deviations occur.
Not only that but the data collected is further analyzed by AI/ML algorithms to optimize chemical dosing, ensuring efficient use of resources. eLIXAⓇ even integrates pump control to provide a fully automated, AI-driven chemical management solution, not only enhancing quality and efficiency but also reducing waste and operational costs in the process.

PM: eLIXAⓇ offers a lot of other capabilities as well. Can you elaborate on it?
AA: With the integration of Mt. Fuji, eLIXAⓇ provides a robust platform for data visualization, analysis, and actionable insights. It is source-agnostic, pulling in data from various plant systems like ERP, PLC, DCS, and even historical datasets to offer a comprehensive view of operations.
One standout feature is DCS mirroring, which gives you real-time visibility of the machines, similar to what you’d see on the DCS itself. This real-time visualization makes it easier to spot deviations and understand their root causes. When paired with eLIXAⓇ’s process optimization capabilities, Mt. Fuji helps teams not just react but proactively manage issues before they escalate.
Ultimately, this integration boosts productivity, minimizes defects, and improves transparency across the plant’s operations, making it a game-changer for plants aiming for operational excellence.

PM: It’s clear that eLIXAⓇ – Mt. Fuji provides a comprehensive solution. Where do you see this technology taking the industry in the next five years?
AA: The integration of advanced AI-driven solutions and data visualization through eLIXAⓇ – Mt. Fuji is paving the way towards fully autonomous plants. I foresee a future where processes are fully optimized and plants can meet their sustainability goals without compromising efficiency. It’s an exciting time for the industry, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of this transformation.
