One of the oldest and largest paper mills in Germany, Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper GmbH, is set to shut down on June 1, 2025, after nearly 130 years of papermaking.
Watch: In Pursuit of Lesser Water Footprint
Located in Hagen, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and having production capacity of around 450,000 tonnes, the modern paper mill was one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high-quality coated papers for graphic, packaging, and book printing.
Kabel initiated insolvency proceedings in March of this year. According to Prof. Dr. Peter Neu of the law firm ATN d’Avoine Teubler Neu Rechtsanwälte, which specializes in insolvency and restructuring, efforts to restructure the company and attract investor interest were unsuccessful in securing a buyer.
