Sam Turbo Industry Upholding the Excellence in the Pump Industry

With 50+ years of experience, Sam Turbo Industry Private Limited, a leader in designing, manufacturing, and supplying industrial pumps for domestic and overseas markets & servicing – catering to the entire pumping needs of pulp and paper, thermal power plants, chemical, fertilizers, mining, metal industries, and M-sand pumps. Sam Turbo has developed foam/investment patterns casting which gives a good surface finish for the products, reduces the friction losses, and increases the efficiency of the pumps. In a recent interaction with Paper Mart magazine, Mr. M. Maria Francis, Senior Vice President – Marketing, Sam Turbo Industry Private Limited, talked about the company and new developments that the company has come up with.

Paper Mart: Please tell us about the new products developed by Sam Turbo.

Maria Francis: There has been a growing trend of energy consciousness within the industry in recent times. Their focus is mainly to reduce energy consumption. Pumps used by the companies have large energy consumption. Sam Turbo revolutionized industrial pumps with their innovative high-efficiency designs. We have developed foam/ investment patterns casting, which were earlier made in wooden patterns. These castings give a good surface finish for the products which reduces the friction losses and increases the efficiency of the pumps. We have an extensive range of pumps to provide the best efficiency at different duties for our customers which results in cost savings. We have also come up with a staggered vane impeller for the paper industry for fan pumps, reducing the losses and pulsation thereby improving the quality of the paper. We have an integrated foundry and factory which helps us to control quality and delivery time.

PM: What is your USP that keeps you ahead of the competition?

MF: We provide 24/7 customer service for the running equipment. We provide after-sales service, and technical support to the customers so that they can get maximum benefit out of the pump. Every type of machinery has its own standard life. The pump having a life of 2 years might perform for 3-4 years if proper services and support are given. Additionally, according to various operating conditions in the plant, the pump’s performance also varies. Our service team, while commissioning the pump, will study the system requirements, and match the pump’s performance to the system’s requirements. Then only the real output of the pump will be obtained by the customer. That’s the kind of after-sales service we are giving which is very important. Additionally, we have developed several special materials to withstand and provide longer life for corrosion and erosion applications. Our further emphasis lies in building our capacity to meet future growth hence, our in-lined projects will soon be completed by 2024.

PM: Please tell us about your manufacturing capabilities and R&D setup.

MF: We are updating ourselves with the latest developments in the world and according to the requirements of the customers. If a customer wants to customize a product, we work hard and try to develop the product with thorough study. We have an integrated foundry and factory which helps us to control quality and delivery time. We have a separate R&D department with fully computerized test labs. We make sure that the impeller and the wear plate, the two major components of a centrifugal pump, are manufactured perfectly to fulfill our commitment to achieving better efficiency by the customers. We have an updated machining shop in our Coimbatore facility with CNC. We have 2-ton, 1.5-ton, and 0.5-ton x 2 induction furnaces used to manufacture all grades of high alloys, Super duplex, duplex, stainless steels, carbon steels, and cast iron. We produce about 600 tons of castings every month in our captive steel foundry.

PM: Kindly shed light on your market footprint and key clientele.

MF: Our pumps have been running in almost all leading paper/ pulp mills in India since 1985. Overseas clients are in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Africa, Kenya, Thailand, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Tanzania, Dubai, Oman, and many more countries. We have a very good tie-up with OEM suppliers and through them, we are supplying our pumps to their various projects – worldwide.
