Top Paper Companies In India 2019

PAPER COMPANIES IN INDIA 2019According to a report released by Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA), the Indian paper industry accounts for about 3.7 percent of the world’s production of paper. The estimated turnover of the industry is Rs 60,000 crore ($8.5 billion, approximately) and its contribution to the exchequer is around Rs 4,500 crore. The industry provides employment to more than 0.5 million people directly and 1.5 million people indirectly.

Most of today’s paper mills employ technologies ranging from the oldest to the most modern – and that is mainly because they have been in existence for many years. These mills use a variety of raw materials including wood, bamboo, recycled fiber, bagasse, wheat straw, and rice husk. Approximately 25 percent of them are based on wood, 58 percent on recycled fiber and 17 percent on agro-residues.

The per capita paper consumption in India is projected to increase to at least 17 kg by 2024-2025. It is currently around one-fourth of the global average, which is 57 kg. The futuristic view is that growth in paper consumption would be in multiples of GDP – an increase in consumption by 1 kg per capita would lead to an increase in demand of 1 million tonnes.

The growing manufacturing sector and the increasing demand for quality packaging paper, tissue paper, filter paper, tea bags, light weight online coated paper and medical-grade coated paper are expected to drive the paper and paper products market in India in coming years.

Paper Mart’s special feature on the top paper companies in India, which is published biennially, is drawn up based on various key parameters, such as production, turnover, net profit, growth rate (of both turnover and net profit) and net worth. Other parameters like CSR, water and energy consumption, exports, etc., are also included to highlight the all-round and qualitative development of the companies. This list is aimed at giving the reader a bird’s eye view of the Indian pulp and paper industry.

It may be mentioned that this list has been compiled based on the data directly sent to us by the companies and the data we have acquired from the annual reports released by the companies.
