In a recent conversation with Paper Mart, Mr. Kailash Kabra, Managing Director, Vertex Chem Private Limited shared about the company’s overview, manufacturing plants, sectors catered, the organization’s recent developments, the current scenario, ongoing challenges and upcoming opportunities in the Indian and global pulp and paper markets, and future plans of the company.
Paper Mart: Please give us a brief introduction of Vertex Chem, outlining its history and milestones.
Kailash Kabra: Vertex Chem Private Limited was established in the year 1994. We are the manufacturer, importer and exporter of various types of industrial chemicals like pulp and paper chemicals, coating chemicals, industrial defoamers, size press chemicals, deinking chemicals for washing and floatation, dispersing agent, cross-linking agent, finishing agent, lubricant, gloss agent, binder, additives, etc. These speciality chemicals are widely used in paper, textile, fiber line, duplex board, kraft paper, tissue paper, ETP, and coating applications.
PM: Could you tell us about the company’s manufacturing facilities, infrastructure and machinery setup along with production capacity?
KK: Our infrastructure is empowered with a well equipped laboratory, capacious warehouse, cutting-edge technology, gamut of ultramodern machinery, and a superb working environment. We have developed barrier coatings or water repellent coating, as well as oil and grease resistant chemicals for kraft paper, white paper and paperboard. We have also developed a new generation cooking aid and anti-pitch for pulp mills. For the kraft paper segment, we have developed BF booster and odor control chemicals along with ply bonding chemicals and RCT enhancers. We have also produced next generation ash enhancer and wet strength resins for writing and printing paper and tissue paper segments respectively. We also offer a plant trial by our well-qualified technical sales team to show the performance of our products. Production capacity is the maximum product output a company can produce using its available resources over a specified amount of time. This metric is important because it informs a manufacturer’s critical business decisions in both the near and long term.

KK: Our chemicals mainly target pulp mills, paper machines and coating processes. We assist the paper industry by developing next generation products. We supply BF booster, RCT enhancer, ply bonding chemicals and slushing aid to many paper and paper board industries in India and abroad. We offer a plant trial by our well qualified technical sales team to show the performance and increase the efficiency of pulp and paper products.
PM: Could you tell us about the ongoing and upcoming developments at Vertex Chem?
KK: We have set up a state-of-the-art R&D centre and advanced manufacturing facilities near Mumbai in Maharashtra where we continue to search for newer products and optimize current processes that enable our customers to be competitive in the marketplace without compromising on quality. We follow international quality standards while formulating, storing and procuring from importers in China and Malaysia and exporting to clients in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Gulf countries.

PM: Kindly provide your insights on the current scenario, ongoing challenges and upcoming opportunities in the Indian and global pulp and paper markets.
KK: Tissue and packaging segments are growing at 8.5 percent year on year due to huge demand in the e-commerce, retail and pharmaceuticals sectors. In the current scenario, the cost of fiber is very high and availability is low. Moreover, the quality of fiber is not good. By using speciality chemicals, we can address such issues and enhance paper quality.
PM: Please share with us your vision and future plans for Vertex Chem.
KK: Vertex Chem Private Limited did research and launched the barrier coating chemicals and OGR to the market, a product that our Indian government is insisting on introducing instead of poly coated paper, which is good for environment and human health. Through this new introduction, we want to capture a major market in India.
