Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) announced that two of its manufacturing facilities in Maharastra have received the international Forest Stewardship Council- Chain of Custody (FSC-COC) certification. These certifications apply to BILT’s units at Bhigwan in Pune district (SCS COC-002612) and Ashti in Ghadchiroli district (SCS-COC 002610). The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. BILT is the country’s first and only paper manufacturer, based on virgin pulp, to be FSC-COC certified.
With the FSC-COC certification, BILT has gained membership to the global chain through which wood/fiber sourced from FSC certified and responsibly-managed forests move through the value chain of paper manufacturing. The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible management of forests and the production, manufacturing and marketing of wood -based products, including pulp and paper. This certification enables consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment. FSC-COC certification has been granted by the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), an organization accredited by the FSC to perform audits and issue certifications.
BILT announced that strict tracking requirements have been put in place at these two units to ensure that products manufactured and sold as FSC-certified come from responsibly-managed forests. This certification also allows the company to manufacture and sell FSC-Pure and FSC-Mix products in the domestic and international markets.
