DS Smith Announces EUR 25 Million Capex in Poland

DS Smith is investing in machinery at its packaging facility in Sosnowiec for the production of sustainable and fibre-based paper bags for the e-commerce sector. It is also upgrading its facilities at Kielce and Bełchatów, as part of its ambitious growth strategy in Central and Eastern Europe.

DS Smith has announced an investment of over EUR 25 million in its existing facilities to increase its innovation footprint in the Polish marketplace.

As per a release issued by DS Smith, the investment is for production lines and machinery parks in Kielce, Bełchatów and Sosnowiec. It is part of the company’s ambitious growth strategy in Central and Eastern Europe and also marks its commitment to leading an industry-wide transition to sustainable and fibre-based packaging solutions for customers in the region.

DS Smith has allocated EUR 22 million of the overall EUR 25 million to the expansion of its existing packaging facility in Kielce, to equip it with the highest quality machines. The new machinery, including the installation of a die-cutter Bobst Masterline 2.1, will allow for greater automatization and precision of production process in the Flexography department.

A new production line has been created for the DS Smith Easy Bowl solution for fresh food in its Belchatów packaging facility. The company is further investing in machinery at its packaging facility in Sosnowiec for the production of sustainable and fibre-based paper bags for the eCommerce sector.

In line with this, at DS Smith, we have recently reached a key sustainability milestone by replacing more than one billion pieces of plastic in partnership with our customers in advance of our Now & Next sustainability strategy target that was set for 2025”, says Reinier Schlatmann, Regional Managing Director, Packaging Division, DS Smith Eastern Europe.

The company expects the investments to increase its annual packaging production capacity in Poland by approximately 25 million square meters, and that of glued boxes by 7.5 million square meters.
