UPM Pulp will carry out maintenance work at Kaukas and Kymi pulp mills during the shutdown period, estimated to last for three weeks.

Leading global producer of northern softwood, birch and eucalyptus pulp, UPM Pulp, has decided to temporarily adjust its production at two pulp mills in Finland, to meet the current market conditions.
As per a release issued, productions at Kaukas and Kymi mills were curtailed in accordance with the change negotiations held in March.

“We are adjusting our production as a normal measure in line with market and cost developments, focusing on profitability,” said Marko Sundqvist, Vice President, Pulp Operations Finland.
The shutdown of the Kaukas pulp mill started on September 9, while the Kymi pulp mill shutdown began on September 23. The shutdowns have been estimated to last for three weeks. Maintenance work would be carried out during part of the shutdown period, however, temporary layoffs were possible, Mr. Sundqvist added.
He further revealed that pulp mills in Pietarsaari and Uruguay will continue to run at full capacity. Deliveries to customers will continue normally during the shutdowns.

UPM Pulp operates four modern pulp mills, three in Finland and one in Uruguay. They also have eucalyptus plantations in Uruguay. Their annual pulp production capacity is 3.7 million tonnes.
