In an exclusive interview with Paper Mart, Mr. Samir Patil, Managing Director, Clyde Industries India Pvt. Ltd., discusses the company’s high-tech soot blowing systems, SMART Clean boiler cleaning technology, and the evolving Fitness-to-Operate program. He also shares insights on industry challenges, the role of automation and AI, and how Clyde Industries is helping paper mills optimize steam consumption, extend boiler runtime, and reduce downtime.
Paper Mart: What are you showcasing at Paperex 2025, and how has your experience been so far?
Samir Patil: As a world leader in online boiler on-load cleaning systems, we are showcasing our high-tech products at Paperex 2025. These include low-pressure soot blowing, our Fitness-to-Operate (FTO) program, and our heavy duty RSM-H soot blower. The exhibition is a good platform for us to connect with customers and showcase our solutions.
PM: Can you share how the Fitness-to-Operate program is evolving?
SP: Currently, the FTO program is largely manual, where our expert teams visit mills, inspect systems, and prepare reports. We already have automated FTO program using sensors and machine learning. While this is already implemented in other parts of the world, we are working on it to introduce in India.

PM: With the growing focus on energy efficiency in pulp and paper mills, how does Clyde Industries’ SMART Clean boiler cleaning technology help optimize steam consumption?
SP: Steam is one of the biggest cost drivers in paper mills. Our SMART Clean technology helps customers optimize steam consumption and extend the runtime of recovery boilers, resulting in significant savings for end users.

PM: How does your Boiler Monitoring Diagnostic System help mills improve efficiency and manage maintenance?
SP: Boiler Monitoring Diagnostic System is self-learning and studies boiler behavior to establish effective cleaning strategies. It helps keep boilers running while reducing downtime, predicting issues in advance, and providing early warnings for corrective actions.
PM: What trends and challenges do you see in the paper industry today?
SP: One of the key challenges for paper mills is the impact of new GST law changes, which end users are currently facing. Despite this, we believe paper has a strong future and will continue to grow in the Asian market.
PM: How is Clyde Industries incorporating automation and AI into its solutions?
SP: Automation has been part of our solutions for decades through our SMART Line products. Innovation is ongoing, and customers will see more advanced and innovative products being launched in the future.
