The Good Paper Warrior
Sustainability is one of the most discussed topics in today’s world. We have been trying to promote the eco-friendly aspect of Trident Paper. In 2007-08 we were the first ones to introduce a wheat straw-based copier paper. Back in 2007-08, everyone believed that copier paper should be made with wood as the price of wood-based copier paper was lower than recycled or environment-friendly copier paper. Everywhere in India, people still prefer wood-based copier paper as there is less awareness concerning sustainability. However with the advancement of technology, everything is possible. At the Paperex event, we participated to promote eco-friendly aspects by launching our mascot ‘The Good Paper Warrior’ conveying our theme “Embracing the Greener Tomorrow.”

Commitment Towards Sustainability
Trident Group produces about 1.75 lakh tons of paper annually using wheat straw. Many players have grown their volumes in wood pulp. Unlike others, we are committed to our core values of sustainability and we will produce pulp sustainably from the waste. We have been doing it for the last 10-12 years and it has been a consistent journey. We started with saving 5,000 trees a day, which was communicated either through our paper, packaging, or social media. We aim to educate not only the end consumer but the complete chain including people who are selling papers or notebooks on how important saving trees is and what role eco-friendly paper can play in shaping a greener future. The government is also pushing companies to manufacture sustainable products. So it is very important to invest in sustainable technologies where the emissions are the lowest.

In all our businesses, we are either directly or indirectly contributing to the environment. For example, in the textile business, we make yarn from cotton without using any polymer or artificial agent that might harm the environment. Trident Paper makes paper through agro-residue waste and not from wood. The vision of Trident is to obtain raw materials easily and at a better price. If you talk to any paper manufacturer, raw materials play an important role and contribute to almost 25-30 percent of the revenue. With the increasing capital costs, it is becoming challenging to acquire the raw material. With the focus on sustainability, Trident has decided to invest in newer technologies to reduce the emissions that any other person might have taken 10-15 years later.

Global Influence
Trident Paper’s influence extends globally, constituting 10-15 percent of overall sales in export markets. The primary focus lies on key markets in Africa, the Middle East, ANZ, and North America. This strategic international presence perfectly aligns with Trident’s vision of actively contributing to the growth and sustainability of the global paper industry. I think it is becoming quite important for all the paper manufacturers to be in line with the competitiveness of the global paper industry today.
