Paper Mart: Kindly walk us through the business journey of Edicon Paper Product Private Limited, its major milestones and achievements.

Dinesh Kavar: We are part of Icon group, a renowned name in the world of ceramics and tiles. We are the second largest paper mill of Gujarat having a robust production capacity of 1,50,000 tonnes per annum. Established in December 2019, our journey in the realm of paper manufacturing has been nothing short of remarkable. We started our mill amid the Covid-19 pandemic with great team support of employees and workers. Our dream truly took flight in December 2021, when we commenced production, making strides in the industry as manufacturers of coated duplex board. We are proud to reveal that our machine is ranked among India’s top five paper board machines. We strive to meet the surging demand for premium coated duplex boards with a strong commitment to advanced technology and international quality standards.

PM: Kindly share information about your product portfolio and infrastructural setup.

DK: We produce high quality recycled grey back duplex board and white back triplex board in HWC (high-weight coated) and LWC (light-weight coated) variants. The GSM ranges between 180-500.

We have the best of technology and all our machines are imported. We have installed a four wire machine having a top former. We have also installed a good quality machine for the pulping section, having a good disperser and top former. Our sheeter is one of the best, having a capacity of 300 tonnes per day. As we continue to progress with technological advancements, improvement becomes a major part of growth.

PM: Talk about your market footprint and key clientele.

DK: Though Indian paper mills are doing great presently, the export market has been slow off late. However, it is expected to gain pace in the next one or two years. Currently, we are exporting 30 percent of our capacity and 70 percent is reserved for the domestic market. We act as both merchant exporters and direct exporters. We believe in the line, ‘Make products in India and sell them to the world.’ Most of our goods are sold in India through traders. We also support converters. We provide them service through the railways. They take the products and give them directly to the customers. We wish to increase our exports to 50 percent in the near future. We also plan to develop new products in paper in the future.

PM: Your tagline says, “Be rest assured, you are partnering with one of the best.” Please share details of your relationship with the customers.

DK: We are a large group having a considerable presence across the country. We have a great business sense and have been in the market for many years. We know the pulse of customers. We know how to provide them the best of service and technology. Our aim is to capture a versatile market which includes the domestic and international market by giving quality products to our valuable customers with better service and price.

We take great pleasure at Edicon in our commitment to maintaining world-class packaging standards for all of our shipments. Our dedication to international packaging standards is a cornerstone of our corporate strategy, guaranteeing that our items arrive in great condition while having only a minor impact on the environment.

PM: Please share information on the efforts taken by Edicon Paper Product towards a sustainable future.

DK: Going by the market trends, a growth of 15-20 percent is estimated in the paper industry due to the reduction in the use of plastic. Nowadays, under the ‘GO GREEN’ concept, preference has been given to recycled products, which can boost the recycled paper industry.

At Edicon, profits do not take a front seat at the cost of the environment. Letting nature thrive is our motto. We believe recycling is the best way to let mother nature thrive. Recycled paper production reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent, saves 26 percent energy and decreases water wastage by 43 percent. Our prime objective is to reduce the amount of waste to the maximum level possible. All our products are made from recyclable material/paper waste and can be completely recycled after use, making them a good choice for a sustainable future.

Paper mills are often blamed for excessive water wastage. We recycle 100 percent of water discharged from our factory, which comes to around 18 lakh liters of water being recycled daily. We have allocated 30 percent of the factory land to trees and believe that a better future depends upon what we practice today. Edicon Paper Product Private Limited is built on the premise of nature first. All our policies and company culture revolves around making the world we live in sustainable. We believe in working with the environment, not against it. Our motto is simple, if the world thrives, we thrive.
