UPM Specialty Papers is expanding its selection of recyclable packaging papers with the launch of a new barrier paper made from renewable materials – UPM Asendo Pro.

A two-side coated paper, UPMsays that its new solution provides multiple advantages as a recyclable monomaterial – including a basis for high-quality visuals, advanced grease resistance, good moisture resistance, and mineral oil barrier properties that keep products safe.

The solution is reportedly suitable for dry, greasy and frozen foods, as well as wrappings where print properties are vital. End-use purposes vary from non-food wrapping to food end-uses, and can be further converted for additional barrier properties and sealability to open up more demanding end-uses.
Over the development period of the product, UPM says that it worked closely with converters, packaging line manufacturers and brand owners to test the product’s features and to receive input and feedback. The collaborative development process also included optimization of the product’s print performance.
