Paper Mart: Could you present a brief overview of Spento Papers along with its crucial milestones?
Ramesh Vaghela: Spento Papers India LLP is one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of coated duplex boards in Morbi, Gujarat. Established in 2018, the focus of Spento Papers India is to produce the best quality products and provide the most satisfactory customer service to fill the requirements and prerequisites of the clients. The Spento Papers’ ideology is to uniquely and sustainably manufacture the high-quality coated duplex board paper products while maintaining a healthy environment and we’ve been able to achieve that in a very short period of time. Currently, we produce about 10,000 metric tonnes of paper products per month, out of which around 5000 metric tonnes are exported.
PM: Please tell us about the infrastructure of Spento Papers and product portfolio with its USPs.
RV: Our Company is armed with advanced coated duplex board paper manufacturing machines. The mill is spread across 700000 square feet area and the machines are imported from China. We use high-quality raw materials and operate four-wire part adaptable paper machines to produce a wide portfolio of products. We produce the grey back and white back board and white top kraft liner, and provide in reel and sheet form. In grey back board, we mainly produce light weight coated paper board called Splenta and high weight coated board called Spendura. We also produce white back called ‘Spendura Bright’. Our products compete well with the international quality and standards of coated duplex board paper finish and finesse.
The paperboards have impressive attributes of high stiffness and rigidity. They have a slick surface, high smoothness, and are extensively printable, which makes further use of the papers versatile with production aiding features. The coated white back duplex board features eight-level composition and uniform coating. Made from recycled paper pulp, it is eco-friendly and a food-grade product. Meanwhile, the coated grey back duplex boards are created with a white exterior and grey interior layer. The exteriors are calendared on one side, providing a white and smooth surface suited for offset printing and a coated grey texture inside. Coated with bright pulp pigments, it provides a glossy appearance and the feature also facilitates better-quality printability.

PM: What is your outlook on the Indian pulp & paper industry?
RV: The paper industry is growing rapidly after the pandemic and this offers more opportunities to mills like ours. The entire market is open for us and we aim for good growth in the near future.
PM: What do you think are the key trends behind this growth?
RV: The increase in the demand for packaging is the key trend that is driving the growth of the paper industry. With time, people have become more concerned about climate change and other environmental issues. Consequently, they are switching from plastics to recycled or virgin paper which is promising for the paper industry as well as good for the environment.
