CPPRI Organizes Training Program Aimed at Indian Practices for Waste Paper Collection and Handling of Indigenous Recovered Paper

Central Paper and Pulp Research Institute organized a one-day training program themed “Aspects of Current Technological Practices Adopted for Collection, Separation, and Supply of Indigenous Recovered Paper and Improving the Current Scenario of Waste Paper (Recovered Paper) Collection” at the Indian Institute of Packaging, New Delhi.

Central Paper and Pulp Research Institute, Saharanpur, organized a 1-day training program on 28 August 2023 at the campus of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Patparganj, New Delhi. The program themed “Aspects of Current Technological Practices Adopted for Collection, Separation, and Supply of Indigenous Recovered Paper and Improving the Current Scenario of Waste Paper (Recovered Paper) Collection” was organized under the Human Resource Development project sponsored by the Department of Industrial Growth and Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Government of India.

The chief guest of the program was Mr. Sanjeev Singh, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The participants of the program were representatives of various paper mill committees, representatives of the Recycle Traders Association, representatives of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), scientists, and students.

The program started with a welcome address by Dr. Ashwani Dixit, Scientist F. Dr. M.K. Gupta, Director, CPPRI, in his address, informed the participants about the ongoing project for paper recovery. The chief guest Mr. Sanjeev in his speech appreciated the efforts of CPPRI and other agencies for the recovery of the paper and called upon all the people to work together for this purpose Prof. (Dr.) Tanveer Alam, Additional Director, Center Head, IIP, Delhi. Mr. J. P. Narain, Director of Fibertech Limited, and Mr. Naresh Kumar Singhal, President of the Indian Recycled Paper Traders Association (IRPTA), also addressed the participants and conveyed their views.

The welcome program was concluded by Mr. Alok Goyal, Scientist E2 with a vote of thanks.

In the second phase of the program, a group discussion was organized on the topic of paper recovery. This session was moderated by Dr. Gupta, Director of CPPRI. In this session, various industry experts presented their views and facts, namely Mr. Rohit Pandit, General Secretary of the Indian Paper Manufacture Association (IPMA); Mr. R. Vijay Kumar, General Secretary, Indian Newsprint Manufacturers Association (INMA); Dr. B. P. Thapliyal, Secretary General, Indian Agro & Recycled Paper Mills Association (IARPMA); Shri Nitin Goyal, Secretary General, IRPTA; Shri Aditya Gupta, Director, Narsingh Das & Co. Private Limited. The discussion was very insightful which will prove to be very helpful for the future activities of the project.

In the last phase of the program discussion on various topics of paper retrieval was carried out by Dr. Sanjay Tyagi, Scientist E-II, Alok Kumar Goyal, Scientist E-II, Satya Dev Negi, Scientist E-I, and Mohd. Salem, Scientist B, CPPRI. The program was coordinated by Kumar Anupam, Scientist B. The program concluded with the distribution of training certificates to the participants.
