The upgradation of PM2 involved the installation of a state-of-the-art auto slice control headbox with MLF for better paper formation, along with a new calendaring section featuring a thermo-roll for uniform caliper and improved smoothness. A CD profiler was also added to maintain uniform basis weight, moisture and caliper across the deckle. In addition, the fan pump capacity in the approach-flow system was increased from 2,200 LPM to 2,600 LPM, while a new tail-feeding system was installed from the calendar to the pope reel for faster paper passing.
The upgradation also contributed to an increase in PM2’s operating speed from 510 metres per minute (mpm) to 550 mpm, alongside improvements in product quality. The upgrade provided tangible benefits, including improved sheet formation, better surface finish, enhanced printability, smoother runnability and stronger machine productivity, establishing the quality benchmark.
The modernisation also enabled the successful transition of pharma-grade paper production from PM3 to PM2, with the company reporting improved product quality and stronger market demand following the transition. It signifies expansion of presence in speciality papers.
