Mondi has approved a EUR 400 million investment in a kraft paper machine at its flagship Štětí mill in the Czech Republic. The investment, which comes within the Group’s EUR 1 billion expansionary capital investment for its sustainable packaging business, will cement its leading position in the market.
The expansion will enable Mondi to fulfill the growing demand for paper-based flexible packaging, which is driven by surge in e-commerce and sustainable packaging. It will also facilitate the growth of the group’s range of innovative, sustainable packaging, and paper solutions.
The new kraft paper machine will have the capacity to produce about 210,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of sack kraft paper for the Paper Bags business. It will also optimise the production across the kraft paper portfolio and strengthen its position in speciality kraft paper for a broad range of applications such as functional barrier papers.
“As a global leader in innovative and sustainable packaging solutions, we are pleased to announce the approval of such an important investment. Sustainability is at the heart of all we do and this is a big step forward on our journey to making all our packaging solutions reusable, recyclable or compostable, which is one of our Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) commitments,” says Mr. Thomas Ott, CEO Flexible Packaging, Mondi.
