Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) is progressing with an overall capex of around INR 600 crore towards capacity expansion and efficiency enhancement, comprising a 34,000 TPA tissue paper plant and the revamp of its steam and power system (RSPS).

The INR 600 crore capex programme includes around INR 350 crore for the tissue paper project and approximately INR 250 crore for the RSPS project. The tissue paper project was funded through INR 270 crore of debt and INR 80 crore through internal accruals, while the RSPS project comprises INR 200 crore of debt and INR 50 crore of internal accruals.

The 34,000 TPA tissue paper plant has been completed and is expected to commence commercial operations from Q3 FY27. The tissue paper division is consequently expected to begin contributing to TNPL’s revenues from Q3 FY27 onwards.

Meanwhile, the RSPS project is nearing completion and is also expected to be commissioned by Q3 FY27. The project is aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of TNPL’s steam and power systems.
